Star Wars fans will have noticed a few parallels between the original trilogy and the new sequel trilogy.
Back in 1977’s A New Hope it was Sir Alec’s Obi-Wan who played mentor to a young Luke Skywalker.
Now however the upcoming The Last Jedi will see Hamill’s character become the older Jedi who his apprentice Rey will look up to.
Taking on the position, Yahoo! Movies asked the star at Disney D23 how the late Guinness had influenced his performance.
Hamill revealed: “I was completely in awe of [Sir Alec Guinness].
“But in terms of studying him for this film: I channeled his dignity and his composure.
“But Obi-Wan has a much different backstory than Luke, so although there are many similarities, you have to really sort of take ownership of your own character.”
Fans have been wondering if Obi-Wan’s Force ghost, last seen at the end of Return of the Jedi, will make an appearance.
After all, both Obi-Wan and Yoda’s voices were heard in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the first teaser for The Last Jedi.
Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi will be released in UK cinemas on December 14, 2017.
