It has long been thought among fans online that Andy Serkis’s character will be seen in the flesh in The Last Jedi, after only appearing as a hologram in 2015’s The Force Awakens.
Now, a leaked description of the character from toy company Hasbro has surfaced on Reddit and seems to clarify that he’ll have a more active role going forward.
“The shadowy commander of the First Order, Supreme Leader Snoke prefers to operate from a distance, looming over his underlings in the form of an immense hologram,” a blurb reads.
“As the First Order rallies, this master of the dark side emerges from the shadows to seize victory.”
That said, even though we may get a better look at Snoke in Episode 8, don’t expect to learn any more about his backstory.
Despite constant theories over his identity, Rian Johnson has as good as confirmed that we won’t be getting too far beneath the surface of the antagonist.
Speaking to Empire, Johnson compared him to Emperor Palpatine as he said: “We got the whole story of Palpatine’s rise to power in the prequels, but in the original films he’s exactly what he needs to be, which is just ‘the Emperor’.
“He’s a dark force: the scary thing behind the thing.
“That was entirely how I approached Snoke.”
He added: “I wasn’t interested in explaining where he came from or telling his history, except where it serves this story.”
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is out on December 14.
