Del Toro is known to be playing a new role in Star Wars: Episode 8; known so far as only DJ.
But speculation has raged on for some time now that the character is actually Ezra from Star Wars Rebels – something Pablo Hidalgo has addressed.
Hidalgo has written content for the Star Wars website and also been part of the Lucasfilm Story Group, ensuring one cohesive canon is maintained.
One Twitter user sent him an image of DJ and one of Ezra – both having scars on the same cheek.
However, Hidalgo’s answer pointed out one flaw in the link – appearing to dampen it.
The image of DJ had been flipped, meaning the scar is actually on the opposite cheek.
“This would work better if you didn’t have to flip the Benicio image,” he said simply.
When the person who tweeted him said they didn’t realise it had been given the mirror treatment, Hidalgo confirmed: “It is flipped.”
So is there, in fact, more to Del Toro’s character? Does he link into the wider canon? It seems we will have to wait to see the film to find out.
Laura Dern has also joined the franchise, and spoke about it on Ellen today.
Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi is out on December 14.
