Movie fans lucky enough to have seen Spider-Man Homecoming will know there are two post-credit scenes.
While the second one is Captain America amusingly telling audience members to remain patience for future instalments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was the other that was the most revealing.
The mid-credits scene showed Michael Keaton’s Vulture arriving in prison and bumping into his old associate, Mac Gargan, who is a little scarred up.
Comic book fans will know his character becomes the villain known as The Scorpion.
Actor Michael Mando, who played the baddie, revealed he would be playing Scorpion before Spider-Man Homecoming was released.
In the scene with Vulture (aka Adrian Toomes), Scorpion asks him for the true identity of the Web Slinger – as he wants revenge for Spidey’s involvement in his arrest.
While Vulture knows Spider-Man is Peter Parker, he won’t let Scorpion know.
Nevertheless Scorpion replies: “I’ve got some friends on the outside.”
With this line in mind, it seems very likely that the confirmed Spider-Man Homecoming sequel – due in 2019 after Avengers 4 – will see the introduction of the Sinister Six.
The Sinister Six are a group of super-villains which has included both Scorpion and Vulture in the past as well as Spider-Man baddie favourites such as Doctor Octopus, Electro and Sandman.
This wouldn’t be the first time Sony – who own the rights to Spider-Man – have attempted to get the group on the big screen.
At the end of 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the Sinister Six were teased as gadgets like Doctor Octopus’ tentacles and Vultures wings were spotted in glass cases.
The film studio even had plans for a Sinister Six movie for late 2016.
However since Sony’s deal with Marvel, Spider-Man is now appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so surely the best place for the Sinister Six’s introduction would be the Spider-Man Homecoming sequel in 2019?
Until then fans will see Spidey return for Avengers Infinity War and its sequel in 2018 and 2019, while his second solo movie will take place right after the conclusion of Avengers 4.
