Sophie Countess of Wessex: ‘Queen’s favourite’ snubbed in favour of Meghan Markle at Ascot

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, 53, and her husband Prince Edward, 54, attended Ascot four times this year.

Meghan Markle, 36, attended just once, making her Royal Ascot debut on Tuesday 19 June.

However, the Duchess of Sussex was the one who dominated headlines.

Meanwhile, a special occasion for Sophie and her husband was overlooked.

Tuesday, the same day the royals attended Ascot, was Prince Edward and Sophie’s 19th wedding anniversary.

However, the important anniversary was not acknowledged on the Royal Family Twitter account.

Sophie has previously been described as the Queen’s favourite royal, according to the Daily Mail.

It is believed Sophie and her husband and their children – Louisa, 14, and James, 10 – regularly have early evening tea with the Queen at Windsor Castle on Sundays.

Sophie has been pictured riding with the Queen in the grounds of the castle.

She has also been carriage driving with Prince Philip, and is said to call him “Papa”.

Sophie looked beautiful in pale lavender at Royal Ascot yesterday.

Her outfit consisted of a pretty shirt dress with belt and a full shirt with mini pleats. Her saucer hat was covered in pretty pink and purple feathers.

However, eagled eyed may have noticed a detail about the outfit that look somewhat similar.

On her ring finger on her right hand Sophie wore a large blue stone. The piece looks strikingly similar to Diana’s aquamarine and diamond ring.

However, the piece appeared to be a replica piece rather than the original.
