Silent Witness viewers stunned as they spot huge Nikki Alexander gaffe ‘Absolute rubbish’

Nikki (played by Emilia Fox) became embroiled in a nail-biting situation after a night of steamy passion with her date, the American Matt Garcia (Michael Landes) in tonight’s episode of the BBC series.

The pair met through a complex series of murders that began with an important figure who had been visiting for the American Embassy.

As sparks flew, Nikki tentatively agreed to Matt’s flirtatious advances which ended up with her going on a fully-fledged date with him.

Instead of going out however, the couple stayed in at Matt’s enormous gated mansion before ending up in bed together.

When Nikki woke up to go to the bathroom, the atmosphere suddenly changed and the character found herself trapped in the bathroom as muffled sounds of an altercation could be heard outside the door.

As the reality of the situation dawned, Nikki desperately tried to open the door but found herself completely stuck.

Yet as the latch suddenly became free, Nikki pulled the door open and a chair that had been lodged underneath fell through.

Baffled at the scene, viewers took to Twitter to debate the “unrealistic” plot device.

“I’m not sure the chair would have stopped the door from opening? #SilentWitness,” one person questioned.

Another slammed: “Why put a chair against a door that opens inwards? #SilentWitness.”

“#SilentWitness so does Matt not have any security at that house?” a third wondered.

A fourth complained: “Oh well. So much for Matt. So much for the Secret Service who would have been about. So much for bigger holes than usual plot #SilentWitness,” followed by: “Dr Nikki Alexander Locked in a bathroom with a chair lent up against a pull door!!! This series has been poor #SilentWitness.”

Fans continued to criticised the normally sharp series, as one person wrote: “What’s happened to #SilentWitness? Nowhere near as exciting as it used to be and it’s become all about how much danger Nikki can get into. So unrealistic.”

“#SilentWitness: She’s locked in the bathroom but finally manages to pull the door open and the chair wedging it closed falls over. Absolute rubbish!! You can’t wedge a door closed from the outside if it opens inward,” another added.

Silent Witness continues tomorrow at 9pm on BBC One.
