The forensic crime drama series saw Nikki’s suspicions about David Cannon (Julian Rhind-Tutt) aroused further when she discovered blood in the boot of his car.
With Dr Thomas Chamberlain’s (Richard Lintern) support, she took samples to process.
However, the uncovering of a family murder from the past shone the spotlight on three people who went to the same school.
Ending in a tense chase, Jack Hodgson (David Caves) punched Nikki in a case of erratic mistaken identity.
Fans instantly took to social media following the broadcast.
One fan tweeted: “Well the conclusion of that #SilentWitness arc was INCREDIBLE, so dramatic and absolutely heart breaking! And @EmiliaFox was brilliant as ever, seeing Nikki so vulnerable was tough, but she did an incredible job of portraying it. I adored it.”
“Did the old man punch Nikki or was it Jacks elbow??? Jack luvsssss Nikki #silentwitness,” posted another.
A third quizzed: “Man, Jack must have one hell of a punch to knock someone out long enough for the police to get to a rural farm whilst he’s still out cold. #SilentWitness #DavidCaves.”
“I glanced away at end of #SilentWitness – did Jack just punch Nikki?!” asked another.
A fifth added: “I was wondering when Jack was going to punch someone #silentwitness.”
Silent Witness continues next Monday on BBC One at 9pm.
