Saturday Kitchen guest makes SCATHING jibe about host Donal: 'Can't beat James Martin'

The 31-year-old Irish guest presenter became the butt of a cheeky taunt about his Saturday Kitchen predecessor James Martin, 45.

BBC Radio 1 DJ Greg, 31, joined the chefs in the kitchen, but it wasn’t long before Donal became the victim of his quick wit.

Discussing his new children’s book, Kid Normal, which tells the tale of an ordinary boy who gets sent to a superhero school and worries that he isn’t special. Greg explained that he had written the story with his radio show pal and news presenter Chris Smith.

“Murph, the main character, is definitely a bit of me and a bit of Chris,” he told Donal. “It really taps into that feeling of displacement and feeling that you don’t belong somewhere and that stress you have when you go to a new place, whether it’s a new school or a new job or whatever.

“I remember feeling that on the first day of secondary school, looking at the sixth formers and going, ‘I’m never going to be that big,'” Greg continued.

“But forget about the kids,” Donal exclaimed. “I still feel like that sometimes as well! It’s relatable for everyone.”

Greg immediately replied: “Of course, the first day on a new job you go, ‘How am I ever going to beat James Martin?'”

The other chefs and TV crew burst into fits of laughter at the jibe.

Luckily, Donal didn’t appear to take the insult to heart, giggling: “The question I ask myself every day. It’s always hard.”

Last week, the presenter took a break following his disastrous accident the week before.

Donal was left shaken after “chopping [his] finger off” on the show in a live blunder as he sliced his hand open in the midst of a cooking segment.

Saturday Kitchen airs Saturdays at 10am on BBC One.
