The show was thrown into chaos during the weekly omelette challenge as Donna Hay set fire to a pan of butter leaving host Donal Skehan stunned.
It came as the chef noted her anxiety levels had “gone through the roof” as she prepared to go head-to-head with José Pizarro.
Looking around the studio before the task began she asked: “Have we got a medic on stand-by? My heart is racing. Medic!”
Donal advised her to calm down before he started the clock and she threw cubes of butter into a frying pan.
Unfortunately for Donna things went from bad to worse because as she whisked her eggs, her pan went up in flames.
“Oh my god! She’s on fire!” Donal could be heard shouting from the side of the kitchen.
Looking at the flames, Donna gasped: “Ah I’m on fire! José, I’m on fire!”
As he took the frying pan off the heat, Donal commented: “We’ve never had an omelette on fire before.
“The fire alarms will be going off. Donna, I think we will have to give you a special award.”
Fans at home were also stunned by the events taking place on today’s Saturday Kitchen with one viewer commenting: “#SaturdayKitchen haha set pan of butter on fire! That’s new.”
Another added: “How do you set fire to butter? Hahahaha. #SaturdayKitchen that was brilliant. I’m about to do an omelette challenge of my own.”
Saturday Kitchen airs Saturday on BBC One at 10am.
