Michel Roux and his fellow chefs Niklas Ekstedt Amandine Chaignot could do nothing but laugh after seemingly being left flabbergasted by the person’s remark.
“Lets go back to the phones please, our next caller is Richard from Enfield. What’s your question please?” the 57-year-old host started.
The segment had started off with advice on how to cook artichoke hearts, however the second wasn’t quite so challenging.
“Hello! Oh hi there Michel, I’ve got some haricot beans and I’m looking for a recipe for beans on toast please?” Richard said.
The studio then broke into laughter, with special guest Kay Mellor and wine expert Olly Smith also left amused.
“Haricot beans… Amandine all yours,” Michel passed it on, and she was more than happy to make a few suggestions.
“It’s finally happened. A caller on #SaturdayKitchen has asked how to make beans on toast,” one tweet read.
A second went on: “Are these callers taking the p***? #SaturdayKitchen,” perplexed by Richard’s struggles.
“Which one of you just phoned in for the beans on toast recipe with haricot beans?#saturdaykitchen,” a third questioned.
Meanwhile, the instalment also led those at home to hit out at the cooks for being “unhygienic”.
Michel was forced to remind them to wash their hands mid-recipe, leaving fans concerned about food poisoning.
“That chicken/fish dish was seriously unhygienically made on #Saturdaykitchen. Who is going to get food poisoning first?” one person questioned.
Two others agreed: “I’m not going to her restaurant if she dabs raw chicken everywhere and then fiddles with the cooked food #saturdaykitchen,” and: “#saturdaykitchen handling raw chicken then told to wash hands and just turns tap on, runs water for one second over one hand and then uses a tea towel. Glad I’m not sharing the food poisoning later.”
Writer Kay also spoke about her new series Girlfriends as well as Fat Friends The Musical during her appearance.
Saturday Kitchen continues next weekend at 10am on BBC One.
