Sarah Ferguson’s royal heritage revealed: How Duchess is descended from British royalty

Sarah Ferguson, 58, is the ex wife of Prince Andrew, also 58, and the mother of Princess Beatrice, 29, and Princess Eugenie, 27.

The redhead married the Duke of York in 1986 in a wedding ceremony that was watched closely by the nation.

However, the relationship did not work long term, and the couple split in 1996.

While Sarah has taken on many roles since her divorce, including charity work, she is also a descendant of British royalty like her ex husband.

Sarah, who often goes by the name of ‘Fergie’, is a descendant of King Charles II.

The Duchess is related to two of his illegitimate sons Charles Lennox, 1st Duke of Richmond, and James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth.

What is more, Fergie also descends from Lady Anne Palmer. She was the daughter of Barbara Villiers, also known as Barbara Palmer, 1st Duchess of Cleveland.

Villiers was as mistress of King Charles, who was known for being very beautiful, having terrible temper, and helping herself to money from the King’s private income.

Sarah Descents from Lady Anne Palmer via her paternal great-great-grandfather Henry Brand, 2nd Viscount Hampden and her maternal great-grandfather Mervyn Wingfield, 8th Viscount Powerscourt.

It may surprise some to know that while she was married to a member of the Royal Family, Sarah also has royal blood herself.
