BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty interviewed singer Sam Smith this morning, where they discussed performing, his sexuality, and working on tour.
At the tail-end of the interview Naga asked Sam about whether he will be performing at the upcoming Royal Wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
She asked: “Is it fair to say that you love love? The reason I ask is there’s a big wedding coming up in a couple of months…”
“Yes on my birthday! I’m so upset about that,” he replied.
Naga continued: “Yes, May 19th! So are you going to be celebrating your birthday, or are you going to be celebrating a wedding?”
“Definitely my birthday, but I might be wearing a wedding dress,” he laughed.
“So you won’t be performing?” Naga pressed.
“No, no,” Sam laughed. “It’s my birthday – my birthday is more important!
“I love the royals so I’m going to have to have the TV on. I actually went to Kate and Will’s wedding.
“I was in hyde park drunk watching it on the big screen, screaming when she came out in the dress.
“And I love The Queen – so I’ll make it an event. I’ll have a royal birthday.”
Meghan and Harry’s wedding is being held in St. George’s Chapel on May 19th.
