Royal baby: Two names are neck and neck for Kate Middleton and Prince William’s child

Kate Middleton, 36, and Prince William, 35, are soon facing the due date for the third royal baby.

The couple, who met a university, have two children currently, Prince George, four, and Princess Charlotte, two.

Both their children have names that are familiar to the Royal Family.

There was a Queen Charlotte in 1761, and it is also a feminine version of Prince Charles’ name. George is also Charles’s middle name.

Bookies have been charting which baby names the public have been putting their money on.

It is thought that the royal baby’s name could be Alice, which is the name of Prince Philip’s late mother, whose full name was Princess Alice of Greece.

However, leading bookmaker Coral still makes Mary as the clear 4-1 favourite to be the name of Prince William and Kate’s third child.

Queen Mary, also known as Mary of Teck, was the wife of King George V.

However, there has been a flurry of bets on Alice this week.

Alice is now into 6-1 second favourite, with Victoria next at 8-1 as punters appear convinced the Duchess of Cambridge will be having a girl.

“We’ve taken a lot of bets this week on Alice but Mary remains top of our betting and we still think given the history behind the name in both families, it’s a hot favourite,” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead.

Meanwhile Coral are offering a series of specials on when the baby might be born, with it 8-1 to be on the couple’s seventh wedding anniversary, 29 April.

It is 16-1 to be born on the same day as the Grand National.

“Some punters have been requesting odds on the baby to arrive on the same day as the Grand National, perhaps hoping it can give them an extra bit of luck on their way to picking the winning horse,” added Aitkenhead.

Kate Middleton and Prince William will have a very modern approach to the birth of their third child, it has been revealed.

The couple already broke with royal protocol with the announcement of the birth of their first child Prince George, four.
