Riverdale is just one episode away from wrapping up season two and with Jughead Jones’ (played by Cole Sprouse) fate hanging in the balance after he was horrifically beaten in the last instalment of the show, fans are convinced something terrible is about to happen in the grand finale.
Amping up speculation that trouble is on it’s way, producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa shared a haunting photo on Twitter of Riverdale High students storming the school corridor.
Leading the disgruntled looking pack were show favourites Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch), Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan) amongst others.
It appeared the group were approaching Principal Waldo Weatherbee (Peter Bryant), who was closely followed by a crowd of his own.
In the image, Veronica looked visibly upset and somewhat downcast, meanwhile, Archie had anger and frustrated written all over his face.
Noticeably, all leading characters were wearing leather jackets, which resembled the trademark garment worn by the Serpents.
This seemed to suggest union between long-standing rivals the South Side Serpents and North Side pupils, which potentially came about after Judghead Jones was attacked during episode 21, titled Judgment Night.
Roberto captioned the picture on Twitter: “Get all your friends together for the #Riverdale finale tonight at 8 on the #cw. Tears will be shed.”
The executive producer’s latest teaser prompted chaos from fans, who flooded the thread in response.
One person wrote: “I think they will all rally themselves against the Ghoulies or to pay tribute to someone.”
Another added: “Wow almost looks like all the North Side kids joined the South Sides Serpents in this photo #Riverdale.”
A third said: “Maybe they are wearing the jackets for Jughead, even though he’s definitely not dead.”
Someone else commented: “I’m so confused… everyone’s in leather jackets and Weatherbee has someone in a serpent jacket standing behind him.”
It comes just hours after Mädchen Amick, who plays Alice Cooper, hinted her character could die in episode 22.
Alongside an image of a disheveled Alice, Mädchen said: “This is what a broken woman looks like.”
The TV star hinted she could be another one of the Black Hood’s victims as she added: “How do you think #Alice will survive all that’s happened to her? Or will she??”
She added: “All I can say is TUNE-IN. It is going dowwwwn!!!!!!”
Riverdale follows a group of high school students as they take on a series of murder mysteries and attempt to bring lawbreakers to account.
Netflix and The CW confirmed Riverdale season three last month.
