Archie (played by KJ app) was sentenced to time behind bars on Riverdale as he confessed to the charge of manslaughter, which had been pinned on him Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos).
Facing an uncertain future, Archie decided to enjoy one last weekend of freedom with his friends before the sentencing, later telling his girlfriend Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) he didn’t want her visiting him.
Not wanting to be reminded of his life in Riverdale, Archie will be shocked to see a familiar face serving time alongside him on the Netflix drama.
However, will the blast from the past work in his favour as Archie meets the rest of the inmates in the CW series?
In anticipation of the second episode, Riverdale writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa posted a picture on Twitter of the returning character.
Last seen trying to help his fellow Southside Serpents, Joaquin DeSantos (Rob Raco) returns to the Netflix drama, serving time in the same juvenile detention centre as Archie.
Accompanied by a picture of Joaquin, Roberto tweeted: ““J” is for Joaquin, looking at Archie with those Bette Davis eyes… New #Riverdale is on tonight! You dare not miss it!”
What exactly has landed Joaquin behind bars though?
Joaquin’s return in season two was only brief, having left Riverdale in season one after enjoying a romance with Kevin Keller (Casey Cott).
However, after being involved with the disposal of Jason Blossom’s (Trevor Stines) dead body, Joaquin believed he had no other option that leave town.
It’s not yet known if Joaquin’s return will be permanent but following Roberto’s Tweet, a number of Riverdale fans expressed their joy at the Serpent’s comeback.
One fan wrote: “Keep him in #Riverdale (and i mean alive ) Bring #Joavin back,” referring to the ship of Joaquin and Kevin’s relationship.
Another stated: “Keep him on the show, release him from jail, and get him and Kevin back together.”
“Oh my god yay! Joaquin is back! I missed him,” a third declared.
While a fourth added: “THIS IS THE BEST THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO RIVERDALE,” followed by another tweet reading: “j is for Jwas about time to get him back.”
Elsewhere in Riverdale, Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) found herself facing the world of the supernatural, or so she thought.
The moment came as Alice Cooper (Mädchen Amick) and Polly Cooper (Tiera Skovbye) were performing a ritual with members of The Farm.
However, Betty could have being have a severe reaction to the drugs she had been getting after forging her own prescription.
Combined with the stress of Archie’s court case and lack of sleep, will Betty believe what she saw or seek help to deal with her problems?
Riverdale airs Wednesday on The CW and Thursday on Netflix.
