The first instalment of the drama saw Albert Square favourites Kat and Alfie Moon (played by Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie) arrive in the picturesque Irish seaside town.
After a night of drinking at the local pub, Kat revealed to Lance Byrne (Ian McElhinney) that she was looking for her long-lost son, who was in his early 30s.
Lance was later seen in the church telling Father Dermott Dolan (Oisín Stack), a seemingly-friendly priest, that his biological mother was in fact Kat and not the woman who had brought him up.
Dermott thanked Lance for telling him but the next day, a switch seemed to have flipped in his brain as he arrived at the church and saw two bottles of orange juice at the door – a clue perhaps?
He rushed around to the sea and promptly drowned Lance, who was taking his usual morning swim.
Those watching at home were left reeling from the cliffhanger, with one viewer tweeting: “Wow well I didn’t expect a murderer in #Redwater can’t wait to see what other secrets are coming @dominictc.”
“What the hell he just killed him #katandalfie #redwater,” another added.
A third commented: “Wow what shocking ending @realshanerichie @JessieWallaceUK can’t wait for next Thursday now loved tonight’s ep we’ll Done guys #redwater.”
While a fourth simply wrote: “Gripping #Redwater.”
Redwater continues next Thursday at 8pm on BBC One.
