In the last episode of the EastEnders spin-off, both characters were feared dead as the six-part series came to a shocking close.
The finale saw Kat (played by Jessie Wallace) thrown from a boat into the sea by her long-lost son Dermott (Eoin Daly) who was attempting to escape the police after murdering Lance (Ian McElhinney).
Things then went from bad to worse as Dermott accidentally reversed into his mother who got struck by the propellors, which left the ocean red with blood.
Dermott immediately dived in to save Kat and dragged her to the rocks where her horrendous injuries were revealed.
Meanwhile, Alfie’s (Shane Richie) emergency surgery on a brain tumour went wrong resulting in doctors racing to his bedside as his heart rate monitor flatlined.
Those watching at home couldn’t handle the dramatic episode as they took to social media to express their concern for the beloved characters and begged for a second series to find out the fate of the EastEnders favourites.
One person wrote: “They surely haven’t just killed off Kat & Alfie?!?! I NEED ANSWERS!!! #Redwater.”
“F*** ME. That #Redwater ending left me literally screaming. Kat and Alfie can’t be dead,” another fan exclaimed.
A third added: “Just watched #Redwater that was intense. Hope Kat and Alfie will be ok. Hope there is series 2…can’t leave it there.”
Another viewer was overwhelmed with emotion, writing: “@bbceastenders @BBCOne @dominictc Will someone please confirm if Kat & Alfie survives I’m in bits because of the ending of Redwater!”
Kat & Alfie: Redwater is now available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
