PS4 news: PlayStation Plus update, GTA 5 Online reveal, Starfire Injustice 2 full launch

Time is running out for those who want to avoid the recently announcement PlayStation Plus August price hike.

Announced earlier this year, Sony are set to increase the costs of their subscriber plans, which will affect all PS4 gamers who play a lot of online titles.

The new changes will only affect players in Europe, but time is running out for those who are hoping to save their cash for another 12 months. The company emailed subscribers confirming that the price of PS Plus memberships is increasing from August 31.

Annual PlayStation Plus memberships will increase from £39.99 to £49.99, quarterly prices will rise from £14.99 to £19.99, while monthly prices will go up from £5.99 to £6.99.

“As you are an existing member, this means that all recurring subscription fees payable by you on or after 31 August 2017 will be charged at the new price,” Sony confirmed.

There is, however, a way to save money by stacking PS Plus subscriptions.

PlayStation Plus costs will remain the same up until the end of August, so PS4, PS3 and PlayStation Vita owners can purchase memberships at the existing prices and stack them for the future.

“Up until 31 August 2017, you may purchase a PlayStation Plus subscription at the current price, which will then be added (or “stacked on”) to your current membership period,” sony explains.

The company also gave fans a few tips on cancelling PlayStation Plus memberships before the price increase goes live.

“If you want to prevent your PlayStation Plus membership continuing at the new price, you will need to cancel it,” the post continues. Turn OFF ‘auto-renew’ in your account settings at least 48 hours before your next payment on or after 31 August 2017 is due.”

GTA 5 Online just got another update, which will likely be one of the last major content drops for the most recent expansion, Gunrunning.

Rockstar save a few vehicles and Adversary Modes to launch following the big debut of the Gunrunning DLC earlier this year.

It means that fans have been able to look forward to a few new bits of content, keeping things a little fresher.

GTA 5 Online just enjoyed one of its most profitable months yet on PS4, Xbox One and PC, with Rockstar looking to add the final touches to their Gunrunning update.

This week saw the launch of a new Adversary Mode, as well as a beasting new vehicle, the HVY Nightshark, which comes with front-facing twin machine guns.

“There’s a special moment in the life of every successful arms dealer when you realize that everyone else is out to kill you,” Rockstar posted.

“And when the moment comes, you want a vehicle built exclusively to cater to that particular dilemma.

“Enter the HVY Nightshark, where you can unleash a hail of bullets in total comfort with its front-facing twin machine guns. Welcome to the new business class – now available exclusively from Warstock Cache & Carry.”

There’s also the new mode to try out, with Overtime Shootout challenging players to score the most points through their own driving finesse.

With GTA Online still doing so well, it seems likely that even more DLC content will be launching in the coming months.

Rockstar will be hoping to avoid any major droughts, which could see players leaving the game.

It’s still unclear what could be coming next for the popular online mode, there are still hopes of a map expansion in the future, although the development have said nothing to suggest this is part of their plans.

The release of Starfire on Injustice 2 has already occurred for some players and NetherRealms Studios are poised to give the new characters its full launch.

As in the past, PS4 and Xbox One players with the Deluxe, Ultimate, or Fighter pack versions of Injustice 2 got first access to Princess Koriand’r.

However, this exclusivity only lasts a week and will be followed by Starfire being released as a standalone fighter available to everyone on Tuesday, August 15.

There has been no confirmation on what time Starfire could arrive, but it will be worth checking the game following midnight in Chicago.

For UK players, that will mean that Starfire could be available as early as 6am, BST, but it’ll be worth keeping an eye on the official Injustice 2 Twittch account until then.

NetherRealm’s development team have cautioned that Starfire is a beginners character, meaning she has a smaller moveset.

The design of Starfire is also meant to make pulling off combos more straightforward, as well as using her energy weapons and spin attacks.
