The first day at school is a big event for any child, but none more so than for Prince George, 4, who had the added pressure of cameras watching his arrival.
But it is also an emotional day for parents, so how did Prince William, 35, really feel about waving his eldest child off to school?
Body language expert Judi James looked at the clip of the royal pair making the journey.
Sharing her comments with Express.co.uk, she said: “William eye-checked his son and beamed non-stop, but the way George kept one small pace back with his eyes down suggested he might have been considering the quite reasonable option to bolt.
“Even the head of house’s sugar pink dress seemed to do little to enchant the prince who shook hands to order but without looking this new grown-up in the face.
“William did his best at looking as proud as punch but with his sons solemn little face you could almost imagine a few parental sobs ringing out on the drive back to the palace.”
Looking further into Prince George’s feelings this morning, Judi said: “Like most children his age who clearly sense the first day of school might not be quite the jolly event their parents have been coaxing them to believe, Prince George looked suitably wary as he came out of the car and made his way into the building.
“Sticking limpet-close to his dad’s long legs and clutching his fingers you knew that no amount of reassuring grins from William were really going to work until he’d been inside and found out for himself.”
George’s first day ended up being a boys day out after the Duchess of Cambridge, 35, was unable to attend due to suffering severe morning sickness.
Kate Middleton and her husband were forced to reveal she is pregnant with their third child slightly earlier than usual due to her sickness forcing her to cancel engagements.
She has been struck with hyperemesis gravidarum during both her previous pregnancies.
It often requires hospital treatment, but at the moment the Duchess is being cared for at Kensington Palace.
The announcement of her pregnancy took some by surprise, but it has been noted the Duchess has a trick she uses distracting people’s attention ahead of a pregnancy announcement.
The Evening Standard’s political reporter Kate Proctor noticed a pattern that the Duchess changes her hairstyle before announcing she is pregnant.
This means people focus on her hair rather than her growing belly.
Kate transformed her hair just a few weeks before the news of this pregnancy.
