Detective Blanca Rodriguez (played by Monique Gabriela Curnen) has been a pivotal character in the story of Power ever since she was introduced in the season five opener. However, as Blanca prepares to find out who shot Ghost (Omari Hardwick) in the final five episodes of the series, some Starz viewers are still intrigued by her accent.
So much so, several Power fans have taken to Twitter to voice their frustrations at Blanca’s accent.
One Starz viewer said: “Ugh so tired of Blanca and this goofy accent #Power”
A second agreed: “Blanca from Power overdoes the New Jersey accent omg [oh my god].”
However, other fans have been supportive of Curnen’s portrayal, saying: “Lol I love Sgt Blanca Rodriguez’s accent in Power.”
So the one question that remains: is Blanca’s accent real or an acting choice by Curnen?

The actress added: “There was so much on the page for me to play with, with her sense of humour and sarcasm.
“There was already that beautiful scepticism built-in. And then, having spent a lot of years in New York, you start to learn a lot about human nature [and the attitude].
“So yeah, just building from the writing and thinking about someone who passionately believes in her purpose in life.”
While Blanca’s accent may have split opinion among Power viewers, she’s not the only actor to sound different away from the camera.
A second said: “Watching @Power_STARZ confidential… I’ll never be used to hearing @JosephSikora4 without the Tommy accent.
“It’s ruining the fantasy for me!!! Also, we need to start a new team, #TeamTariq he’s gonna be the most gangster of them all!”
While a third praised Sikora: “Joseph Sikora plays Tommy sooooo well that it’s almost creepy to hear him speak without that ‘Tommy’ accent. #PowerTV.”
Both Curnen and Sikora will return in Power season six, episode 11 when it premieres next month.
Power season 6 returns to Starz on January 5, 2020.
