Poldark season 3: Does George know the TRUTH about Elizabeth’s baby?

Following tonight’s episode of the show, a preview for next week’s instalment hinted that there would be more drama surrounding the paternity of Elizabeth Warleggan’s (played by Heida Reed) baby.

In the short teaser Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) and George Warleggan (Jack Farthing) were seen having a tense exchange in which the dashing hero asked: “How do you sleep at night?”

“Perhaps you should ask Elizabeth,” George hit back, hinting that he knew something about the hidden passion between Ross and his wife Elizabeth.

Does George suspect that the child is not in fact his and could be that of his nemesis? Will he confront Elizabeth over her feelings for Ross?

The father of the baby remains a mystery and will apparently do so for quite a while yet, but that hasn’t stopped the programme makers from dropping little teasers into the show, including this evening when baby Valentine was described as having “very dark” hair.

From the footage for the next episode, it seems very likely that the rivalry between Ross and George is only set to intensify as they continue to clash.

Along with suggestions that George could know more than he’s letting on about his son, the teaser preview also saw Demelza Poldark (Eleanor Tomlinson) appearing to go into labour.

She was heard instructing servant Prudie Paynter (Beatie Edney) to ready the room for the imminent arrival of her newborn, exclaiming: “Run and make sure all’s ready.”

Meanwhile, at Trenwith there was heartache for Morwenna Chynoweth (Ellise Chappell), who looks set to be married off to a suitable man the Reverend Osborne Whitworth (Christian Brassington) rather than be allowed to follow her heart and blossoming romance with Drake Carne (Harry Richardson).

At one point she is seen appealing to her cousin Elizabeth, who looks less than sympathetic given her own failed love life. The young lovers are then seen sharing a passionate kiss but will be all be in vain?

The teaser trailer follows on from an intense episode of the BBC period drama in which Elizabeth and George moved to Truro to distance themselves from the Poldarks.

Ross also had an adventure in France as he tried to locate Dwight Enys (Luke Norris), who disturbingly disappeared while at sea last week. Luckily, it was revealed that Dwight was still very much alive and well although still in France.

Poldark airs on BBC One on Sundays at 9pm.
