Pokemon Go Shiny Zapdos Day: Start time and Raid news for big event

Having already launched in some areas of the world, The Pokemon Go Zapdos Day is coming to the UK in a few hours.

This special timed event will give Trainers a chance at catching a shiny version of the Legendary bird, which isn’t something many have.

Fans will have around three hours to nab a special Zapdos, although trainers should be warned that there is no guarantee of catching a shiny.

Fans reported during the earlier Articuno Day that grabbing a shiny version didn’t offer the highest odds, although many did report catching one.

However, Niantic may have changed things a little since that time, so trainers might find their chances have been boosted.

For those wondering about the exact times, it has been confirmed that Zapdos Day will run for three hours, much like Community Days.

Shiny Zapdos Day Times:

  • The Asia-Pacific region: 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. JST (GMT +9)
  • Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India: 9:00 a.m.to 12:00 p.m. UTC (GMT +0)
  • The Americas and Greenland: 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. PT (GMT -8)

Other bonuses during Zapdos Day include receiving up to five free Raid passes when you spin a Photo Disc at a Gym, as well currently active Candy rewards for catching Pokémon and hatching Eggs.

It should also be noted that all Zapdos Pokemon caught during that time period will know the Fast Attack Thundershock.

As many fans will already know Zapdos will be available to battle in special gym raids being hosted during the event.

So there’s plenty to think about when putting together your team before everything kicks off this morning.

ZAPDOS RAID BATTLE

There’s plenty of information you can find online to help when battling on Zapdos Day.

The Pokemon Company themselves has shared a guide on which Pocket Monsters are best to have on your team.

You can find some of those tips below, although it should be noted that new Pokemon may have been added since they were shared:

Attack Pokemon: Golem, Rhydon, Tyranitar, Piloswine, Jynx, Articuno, Aerodactyl, Gengar, Alakazam, Dragonite, and Flareon.

“The Electric and Flying-type Zapdos is weak only against Ice-type and Rock-type attacks, and it isn’t doubly vulnerable to either type. It’s also resistant to Ground-type attacks, so the tactics you’d use against other Electric-type Pokémon won’t work well against Zapdos,” the Pokemon Company explain.

“Ground-type Pokémon will still take the least damage from Zapdos’s Electric-type attacks, and Dragon, Electric, and Grass-type Pokémon will take reduced damage, too. Zapdos will quickly decimate your Water-type and Flying-type Pokémon with super effective damage, so deploy them with caution.”

CONTAIN ZAPDOS

“Depending on the damage you did, you may not get many Premier Balls to capture Zapdos once you’ve defeated it, so you’ll want to make each one count. Use a Golden Razz Berry before each throw. Stock up on them beforehand by defeating other Raid Bosses!

The odds of capturing Zapdos are greatest while the target ring is at its smallest diameter. Scoring Great or Excellent Throws will increase your odds, and throwing Curveballs will improve them further. But work within your abilities—if you don’t think you can hit Excellent Curveballs reliably, go for easier throws instead of missing the target ring completely.

You may waste your Premier Balls if your target is moving around when you throw. Wait for Zapdos to start acting up and for the target ring to disappear while it’s a size you’re comfortable throwing into, then time your throw so that the Premier Ball lands as the target ring reappears.”
