Good Morning Britain reporter, Jonathan Swain, was in south west London revealing the details of Ant’s arrest following a car accident yesterday when he appeared to struggle to remember the name of Declan Donnelly.
Standing by the scene of the incident, Jonathan could be heard noting: “This happened just a few hours, less than 24 hours after him presenting Saturday Night Takeaway with his er, other, his er friend, er Dec and then much publicised problems in his personal life.
“Recently announced that he is going to divorce his wife, Lisa, of 11 years and he checked himself into rehab didn’t he for the addiction to painkillers.
“So lots of problems in his personal life and the incident that happened here yesterday, Piers and Susanna, certainly won’t help that will it?”
Back in the ITV studios, Piers Morgan replied: “Nope it certainly won’t, he’s had a lot going on, that’s for sure.”
He went on to correct the reporter, commenting: “By the way Jonathan, it’s Dec is the name of the other guy.”
“Declan,” his co-host Susanna Reid chipped in.
Piers, 52, continued: “He appeared to be struggling to remember who dear old Declan is.”
“I know,” sighed Susanna.
It came just moments after Strictly Come Dancing star Anton Du Beke presented the entertainment news and Piers hit out at the Spice Girls.
Anton was discussing whether or not the girl band could make a return when the father-of-four insisted that they “had their moment”.
“I’m never too sure about these comebacks, I’ve got to say, I think they have a moment in time,” Piers said.
“The Spice Girls had a moment in time, girl power, it was all fantastic. I’m not so sure it’s such a good idea to come back.”
Anton wanted to know what Piers thought they could do instead.
“Mummy power,” Piers replied. “They’re all mums now.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
