Piers Morgan catches out Owen Smith in VERY painful mix-up over Boris Johnson 'Hang on!'

The host caught out the Shadow Northern Ireland secretary after he claimed that had changed his mind over a “hard border”.

Owen told : “He’s urging the Prime Minister to go back in the promise she made to the people of Northern Ireland.

“He’s suggesting we could have one. He’s playing with fire.”

He went on to add: “I think he has performed a complete U-turn. He said it was unthinkable.”

But Piers was not impressed as he insisted Boris was not campaigning for a hard border.

“He said yesterday we should clearly have a hard border,” Owen replied.

Piers snapped back: “Nowhere does he say we should have a hard border.”

“He says if we have a hard border…” Owen began, before being interrupted by the 52-year-old host.

“Hang on, right, hang on,” Piers said as he went on to read out the leaked letter. “He says, ‘It is wrong to see the task as maintaining “no border”’ and the government’s task to ‘stop the border becoming significantly harder’.”

But despite Piers reading out Boris’ statement, Owen continued to insist he was correct.

“That’s not right Piers!” he argued.

The father-of-four shouted back: “I’ve just read it!”

If that wasn’t embarrassing enough, Susanna Reid went on to note that the Labour Party had made a U-turn regarding the customs union this week.

“You say that he [Boris Johnson] has performed a complete U-turn, the fact of the matter is that the Labour Party has had a U-turn on the customs union,” she commented.

Those tuning into Good Morning Britain today were thrilled to see Piers and Susanna catch out the politician over his changing opinions and were quick to comment on Twitter.

“Lol @OwenSmith_MP getting owned on #gmb by @piersmorgan,” one viewer shared while another added: “Well done #GMB. Rightly made Owen Smith MP look a complete a**e.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
