Phillip Schofield ERUPTS at former UKIP leader Henry Bolton – 'outrageous'

This Morning’s Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby didn’t hold back as they took on the former UKIP leader and his girlfriend Jo Marney.

The controversial pair appeared on the ITV show to apologise for causing offence with recent comments on social media.

However, it seemed that Marney in particular wasn’t completely remorseful, especially surrounding her views on the Grenfell disaster.

She had previously described the scene as “a nest of illegal immigrants” and today explained: “I think the language I used was not good and I didn’t mean to cause offence.

“In the wider context of things I think these are the issues we need to look at. There’s an issue of illegal immigration in this story and I think we need to look at it.

“This was before I was ever in the public eye,” Marney defended.

However, Willoughby found the comments jarring and insisted: “It doesn’t matter whether you’re in the public eye or just as a human.”

Bolton interjected: “The government has offered amnesty to those who survived as illegal immigrants.”

Schofield swiped back, insisting the former UKIP leader was trying to “qualify” what he described as “outrageous comments.”

The discussion moved on to the topic of Meghan Markle, following Marney’s controversial comments on the soon-to-be princess.

After reading out a selection of what she described as “private messages”, Schofield explained that he found particular words “hard to say”.

“You don’t sound like a nice person,” the This Morning stalwart insisted.

Marney defended: “I think my comments about her were disgusting and I didn’t mean them to come out. They were said privately.

“They were meant to shock and they don’t reflect my real views,” she added.

Willoughby demanded to know why she would say such a thing in that instance, to which Marney explained that she didn’t aim to cause any offence.

Schofield snapped: “You didn’t mean to get caught. Are you private racists?”

Bolton exclaimed: “Absolutely not – these do not reflect Jo’s core beliefs.

“Jo has apologised in public and to the party, I’m not sure what else she can do.”

Meanwhile, viewers slammed the “vile” former leader and flocked to Twitter in their droves to comment on his appearance.

This Morning airs weekdays at ITV from 10.30am.
