Peterloo release date, cast, plot, trailer – All you need to know about true story

The upcoming Peterloo film tells the true story of a peaceful demonstration turned massacre.

But not all true stories make good cinema.

The movie has a few A-list cast members and recently premiered at the BFI London Film Festival.

After making its way through the festival circuit, the true-story has an imminent release date.

When is Peterloo out in cinemas?

Peterloo had its premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 1, 2018.

From there it screened at the Telluride, Toronto, and Mill Valley film festivals.

After the London film festival, it appeared at the Chicago Film Festival on October 21.

The film has its UK release on November 2, 2018.

What is the plot of the Peterloo movie?

The official synopsis reads: “An epic portrayal of the events surrounding the infamous 1819 Peterloo Massacre, where a peaceful pro-democracy rally at St Peter’s Field in Manchester turned into one of the bloodiest and most notorious episodes in British history.

“The massacre saw British government forces charge into a crowd of over 60,000 that had gathered to demand political reform and protest against rising levels of poverty.

“Many protesters were killed and hundreds more injured, sparking a nationwide outcry but also further government suppression.

“The Peterloo Massacre was a defining moment in British democracy which also played a significant role in the founding of The Guardian newspaper.”

Who stars in the Peterloo movie?

Rory Kinnear plays Henry Hunt, a real-life British speaker and pioneer of working-class rights.

He advocated parliamentary reform and the repeal of the Corn Laws.

Maxine Peake plays Nellie, Nellie, a woman who sells pies, and mother of David Moorst’s Joseph.

They are fictional, along with Pearce Quigley as Joshua, Rachel Finnegan as Mary, Tom Meredith as Robert, and Simona Bitmate as Esther.

Robert Wilfort plays Lord Liverpool, the Prime Minister.

Karl Johnson plays Lord Sidmouth, the Home Secretary.

Sam Troughton plays Mr Hobhouse, with Roger Sloman as Mr Grout, Kenneth Hadley as Mr Golightly, Tom Edward-Kane as Mr Cobb. Lizzy McInnerny as Mrs Moss,

Alastair Mackenzie plays the real-life General Sir John Byng, First Earl of Strafford, a British Army officer and politician.

Tim McInnerny plays the Prince Regent.

The movie was written and directed by Mike Leigh.

The trailer is relatively short by current standards.

But still, it gives a glimpse into the world of Manchester in the 1800s and touches on themes still relevant today.

Peterloo is out in cinemas on November 2, 2018.
