Ozzy said: “My emotions are flying all over the place… I’ve been happy, I’ve been tearful. Let’s see what happens.”
The music legend also warned that there would never be any comebacks for teh band, unlike so many other rock groups.
He added: “This is definitely it, it’s run its course.”
The band were rehearsing at the Genting Arena in Birmingham, ahead of Saturday night’s farewell concert.
The iconic Brummie band was formed in 1968 but was called the rather less heavy metal-sounding Polka Tulk Blues Band.
Ozzy looked back on those early days with fondness and told the BBC: “I remember playing the Crown pub in Birmingham and thinking, ‘This’ll be good for a couple of years – drink a few beers and have a jam’.
“But it was the beginning of the most incredible adventure you could think of. I’ve had the best life out of it.
Ozzy added: “One of the proudest things I have in my heart is the fact that Black Sabbath wasn’t a band that was created by some big mogul. It was four guys who said, ‘Let’s have a dream’, and it came true beyond our wildest expectations.
“People come up to me and say, ‘We’re not worthy’, and I’m like, ‘Why are you being that way?’
“But at the same time, if they don’t recognise me I get upset.”
It seems unimaginable that anyone wouldn’t recognise the rock star-turned-reality-tv-pioneer.
Ozzy has been hitting headlines since the early 1970s, as much for the band’s chart successes as for his outrageous on-stage performances.
Plagued with drink and drug problems, the star was fired by the band 1979 at the height of their fame.
Considerable solo success followed but his greatest success into the 1990s was the creation of the heavy metal festival Ozzfest.
Ozzy returned to Black Sabbath on 1997 and they have continued to tour and release new material.
His incredible music career, however, has been almost eclipsed by the launch of The Osbounes in 2002 which blazed the trail for reality television featuring famous faces and made stars of his wife Sharon, and children, Jack and Kelly.
But music remains his first love and assured fans he woudl continue with his solo projects.
Ozzy said: “What I learned is you have to have something to retire to. So I’m going to continue with my solo thing. It’s not a job, it’s a passion.”
