Ozark season 3 spoilers: Marty set to be killed by the Kansas City Mob?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Ozark season 3

The season two finale of Ozark saw the Kansas City Mob punishing the Byrdes for backtracking on their deal with the casino.

A group of the mobsters were seen blowing up part of Mary Byrde’s (played by Jason Bateman) offices after learning that he had gone back on his word to make sure the casino had a union shop.

The family were down by the lakeside as their new casino was launched while the office was left smouldering in flames.

Marty and Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney) had previously agreed to make sure that the casino workers had a union, so that they would get a money supply via the organisation.

But could the mobsters take revenge on Marty and his family for betraying them?

Speaking to Thrillist, writer Chris Mundy explained why the mob blew up the office: “In a lot of ways, they didn’t really send a message in their first ambush.

“They just kind of waved their finger and gave a warning.

“We really thought of it like, as one thing was starting, they were trying to let Marty know how quickly they could end everything else.

WILL THERE BE ANOTHER SERIES OF OZARK?

“So it was intentionally timed with the casino ceremony to make sure their first office visit wasn’t a hollow threat.”

Mundy’s words suggest things could turn nasty in a third run and that if the mob doesn’t get their way they could potentially kill off Marty.

He was after all the one who made the deal with the mob in the first place thanks to a little help from Buddy Dieker (Yulin Harris).

Then again, Marty is such a major character that another character could take the bullet instead.

Also, it appeared that Marty’s son Jonah (Skylar Gaertner) forged some connections with the mob which could save the family in the end.

But it’s clear that the mob are very dangerous and very quickly end all of the Byrdes’ enterprises.

OZARK SEASON 2 ENDING EXPLAINED

Will there be another series of Ozark?

While Netflix hasn’t confirmed anything, either way, Mundy seemed to be hopeful for the future of the show.

He teased: “We have the ability to shake things up now and start a new chapter with season three.

“You can even think of seasons three and four as one piece.

“The good news in that is I think we can really go someplace tonally different in the next year.

WHAT HAPPENED TO GRACE YOUNG IN OZARK?

In fact, the writer suggested that there could potentially be up to five seasons.

“You never want to do more [episodes] if you’re running out of story, but we think five’s a good length of time to tell these people’s stories.” he said.

But Mundy stressed that Netflix was still deciding whether or not to order seasons three and four.
