Overwatch Moira release date COUNTDOWN: Blizzard launching update today?

Blizzard have not confirmed a launch time or date for Overwatch’s newest hero, however, it doesn’t appear will be waiting much longer.

The games publisher already dropped a pretty big hint that the Overwatch Moira release date was set to land before the weekend.

This came from a recent advert for this weekend’s free trial, which claimed 26 heroes would be available to try out.

“For this free weekend, we’re making Overwatch’s full roster of 26 heroes and 16 maps available for play in a variety of modes, including Quick Play, Custom Games, and the Arcade,” Blizzard posted.

And with Moira being the 26th character, it seemed Blizzard had confirmed a rough release window for launch.

Fans had been hoping that something would be released on Tuesday, November 14, seeing as that is when past character releases have arrived.

But now it appears that today, November 16, could be the time we see Moira deploy.

A very small update was shared by Blizzard’s Bill Warnecke, who posted a reply on a Reddit post discussing the likelihood of Moira turning up today.

He replied “Soon”, which unfortunately doesn’t give us any official confirmation on what to expect.

The Overwatch free weekend runs from November 17 until November 21 (in the UK). It starts at 7pm UK time on Friday and ends at 7.59am UK time on the morning of November 21.

It seems pretty likely that Blizzard would have corrected their official announcement about the Free Weekend if the 26 heroes comment was a typo.

This would suggest that even if we don’t see Moira launch this evening, we will see something pop up on Friday, instead.

Moira is currently available on Blizzard’s PC PTR setup, meaning that some players have already got to try out the new healer.

If Moira is released this week, there’s a good chance we will also see a big overarching update that could make some balance changes to both her, and other characters.

MOIRA ABILITIES:

  • BIOTIC GRASP: Using her left hand, Moira expends biotic energy to heal allies in front of her. Her right hand fires a long-range beam weapon that saps enemies’ health, healing Moira and replenishing her biotic energy.
  • BIOTIC ORB: Moira launches a rebounding biotic sphere; she can choose between a regeneration effect that heals the allies it passes through, or a decay effect that deals damage to enemies.
  • FADE: Moira quickly teleports a short distance.
  • COALESCENCE: Moira channels a long-range beam that both heals allies and bypasses barriers to damage her enemies.

MOIRA BIO:

Talon scientist Moira O’Deorain is described as “equal parts brilliant and controversial”.

After publishing a paper about altering DNA at a cellular level, O’Deorain’s reputation was damaged beyond repair.

“She received a lifeline in an offer from an unlikely source: Overwatch’s covert ops division, Blackwatch.

“She continued her work in the shadows while developing new weapons and technologies for the organisation.

“Her employment was a closely kept secret, until it was uncovered during inquiries following the Venice incident. Many high-ranking Overwatch officials disavowed all knowledge of her affiliation with them.”

After joining Talon, Moira was freed from all constraints and will go to any lengths to make scientific breakthroughs.
