Overwatch Doomfist: Have fans cracked release date news?

The studio posted a big lore update this week, revealing that the bad guys from Talon were responsible for the recent attack on the Helix Security International’s classified maximum security installation.

This appears to suggest that the fabled Overwatch Doomfist character is set to be added to the game, as both the villian who wields the Gauntlet, and the powerful item itself have both been freed.

“After recent events in Numbani, it can now be confirmed that what occurred was an attack by the Talon organization with the express purpose of freeing one man: Akande Ogundimu, better known as Doomfist,” the official Blizzard teaser explains.

“It began in the early hours of the morning, when an unidentified aircraft approached the facility. Security initially reported that the craft had no passengers on board, based on radar scans.

“The craft passed through the range of the installation’s defense systems without incident, leading some to believe that Talon has moles within Helix.

“Video surveillance from within the compound revealed a black shadowy figure emerging from the craft and descending upon the prison grounds.

“The unidentified assailant easily overcame the Helix security agents, leaving over a dozen dead.

“Medical records of the casualties reveal injuries and cellular degeneration matching other incidents involving the mercenary known as the Reaper, all but confirming the incursion as a Talon attack.”

No further information has been released by Blizzard, although fans are hoping to fill in the blanks.

A roadmap based on how earlier announcements have been treated by the Overwatch team may give us a clue in what will happen next.

Reddit user ArielleSweetSugar points out that there were three days between each teaser for Orisa, along with 19 days of testing on the PTR before her official debut on all platforms.

The process began on Feb 21 with the first teaser, followed by additional ones on the 24th and the 27th. This was followed by the March 2nd launch on the PTR and then her full debut on March 21.

Based on this earlier roadmap, fans are speculating that we could Doomfist arrive on August 1.

Tuesdays have become the usual day of big Overwatch updates being deployed by Blizzard, which matches up with the August 1 date.

But while this is a nice theory, other heroes have been deployed in different manners, meaning things could be completely different this time round.

The fact that Orisa spent a long time in PTR could also mean that Doomfist will require a shorter or longer time in testing.

Fans will also be keeping an eye on the Summer Games event’s return, which debuted last year on August 1.

Recent crash logs suggest that both Doomfist and the Summer Games will be arriving soon.
