The Overwatch Contenders League is a lower level tournament announced by Blizzard earlier this year.
The qualifiers are currently going on for the North American team, although there have been a few scheduling changes.
Due to the overwhelming response from the community, and the number of team signups overall, some adjustments have been made to the tournament’s Open Qualifier Stage schedule:
- North American Open Qualifiers: Saturday, June 3rd and Sunday, June 4th – Open Qualifier Matches now begin at 5pm PDT – 1am June 5th BST.
- European Open Qualifiers: Saturday, June 10th and Sunday, June 11th – Open Qualifier Matches now begin at 12:00 PM CEST (3:00 AM PDT).

“Although the changes to the Open Qualifier Schedule will lead to a longer day of competition for participants, the addition of extra time to this stage is to help ensure that all matches prior to the broadcasted Quarterfinals are completed before the stream goes live (broadcast times remain the same for all four Qualifier dates, as previously outlined),” a message from Blizzard explains.
“Another goal is to allow players a break after reaching the Top 8 on their Qualifying day, before having to play out the remainder of the bracket.”
Once Overwatch Contenders is underway, up-and-coming teams will have additional opportunities to demonstrate their prowess via the Overwatch Open Division.
“This tournament series will take place in select regions around the world, and in 2018, will offer emerging teams a path to Overwatch Contenders seasons in each region.
“If you are Masters rank or higher, and you dare to see where your Overwatch skills can take you, then stay tuned for more information on Open Division signups.”
While fans wait to find out who will make it past the first two days of qualifying, they’re also readying for the Overwatch Anniversary end date.
The new loot boxes and cosmetics won’t be disappearing soon, fans still have until June 12 to fully enjoy the three new arena maps and build up their new collection of content.
One big update that looks set to coincide with the end of the Anniversary event is the launch of a new map.
Horizon Lunar Colony was revealed recently and will be a new Assault map going live soon.
It’s currently in PTR testing and is likely going to launch around the sametime as the new event ends.
There are also hopes a new Gorilla character could be launched too, with references being made to a Hammond.
The Ape was an associate of Winston’s during his childhood, although he may also be the one who brought down the whole facility on the moon.
