Olympic gymnast Nile Wilson reveals latest challenge – 21 days to get beach ready

The inspiring athlete and YouTube star who won a bronze gold medal at the Rio Olympics is bringing his expert fitness moves into homes across the UK.

He has created a new 21-day exercise programme in collaboration with Herbalife Nutrition, suitable for anyone of any fitness level and only takes a maximum 15-20 minutes a day.

Burpees, squats, high knee running and handstand practice are just some of the gymnastics style exercises expected to feature in the program that’s pipped to seriously challenge the bodies of those that partake. And it comes with advice on mindset too – something which has got Wilson through some tough times in his young sporting career.

Wilson, 22, from Leeds suffered an injury to his ankle ligament during a training session in January 2017 which saw him bowing out of the sport for a frustrating nine months following surgery.

Physio, family support and determination got him back on track and three gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in April earlier this year proved he’s very much back on top of his game.

“Working your way back from injuries is never easy”, says Wilson. “But I always say that those setbacks make you stronger and that has definitely been the case with me. In some ways, I’m grateful for the injuries I have had because they have developed me as a person and athlete.”

Wilson, who trains for three to five hours a day confesses to being “obsessed with being the best” and when he’s not training, he can be found filming gymnastics stunts for his YouTube followers including back flipping into a pair of shorts.

The athlete was selected by Herbalife Nutrition to develop the challenge featuring the moves he relies on to maintain his Olympic physique.

Commenting on what followers can expect he said: “The 21-Day Challenge is aimed at getting people moving and into good habits – anyone of any ability can take part.”

“Gymnastics uses all the body’s muscles so the exercises involved improve your all-round strength and fitness. It’s about encouraging people to step out of their comfort zone and give them a fresh perspective on fitness.”
