Nintendo Switch NEWS – Latest stock update, FF15 tease, Virtual Boy 2 inbound?

Nintendo Switch fans have plenty to be excited about, with an encouraging stock update, a Final Fantasy 15 tease and hopes for a Virtual Boy 2.

NINTENDO SWITCH STOCK UPDATE – Gaming giant to ‘ramp up’ production

The Nintendo Switch has only been out for less than six months, but fans have already had plenty of exciting releases and upcoming launches.

Switch fans have been treated to a host of top quality Nintendo exclusives like Arms, Splatoon 2 and the upcoming Super Mario Odyssey.

And it’s been selling like hot cakes, with 4.7million units sold worldwide between its launch on March 3 and the end of June.

The only problem has been fans getting their hands on one, with gamers faced with stock shortages across the globe.

Analysts have said the Switch could have sold even more if stock was more widespread.

And Ninty have now come out to say they will “ramp up” production to meet the huge demand for the Switch.

Speaking to Wall Street Journal, Nintendo said: “We’re doing everything we can to make sure everyone who wants to buy a Nintendo Switch system can do so.

“We will ramp up production for the holiday period, which has been factored into our forecast.”

Nintendo has officially planned to ship 10million Switch consoles within its first year on sale, and they are well on their way to doing that.

But sources have previously claimed that Nintendo are hoping to sell 15million Switch until in the hybrid console’s first year on the shelves.

NINTENDO SWITCH VR HOPES – Fans left hoping for Virtual Boy 2 release

Nintendo Switch fans are no strangers to VR rumours, with the Big N previously talked about the possibility of Virtual Reality on the console.

Ever since Sony entered the VR world with PS VR, fans have wondered if Nintendo would return to the futuristic tech.

They previously tried their hand at VR with the Virtual Boy, which was only available for a year and sold less than a million units.

Lack of portability, health concerns, a high price and VR being in its infancy led to a lack of commercial success for the Virtual Boy.

But Nintendo could re-enter the world of VR with the Nintendo Switch, according to reports from Nintendo Life.

They reported that determiner Cody Brocious has found references to Virtual Reality in the Switch’s code.

The code had references to enabled a VR Mode on the Switch, which suggests Nintendo have at least left the door open to VR support.

In February Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima said the Switch would support virtual reality “in one form or another” someday.

However, he said this would only happen if the Big N can figure out a way to make the technology comfortable.

Kimishima said Nintendo were “studying” the possibility of adding VR to the Switch.

Speaking to Japanese paper Nikkei, Kimishima said: “If we are able to resolve the issues with playing [VR] comfortably for long hours, we will support it in one form or another.”

Patents showing the a VR headset for the Switch, which would have the base unit slot into a head-mounted display, have also been filed by Nintendo.

NINTENDO SWITCH GAMES NEWS – Final Fantasy 15 release date teased

Nintendo Switch fans have been left hoping that Final Fantasy 15 could be coming to the hit hybrid console – in one shape or another.

At Gamescom, FFXV producer Hajime Tabata teased that the Switch could get a version of the Square Enix RPG.

Speaking about plans for the franchise during a livestream from the Twitch booth, he said: “We can’t give you any complete, solid details right at the moment.

“But we very much do want to move out and do as much as we can with the game and the franchise.

“There’s another certain console out there people may be thinking of. It sounds a little bit like… Twitch.

“Everyone on the FFXV team loves this specific console that sounds a lot like Twitch, so you may want to think about something like that in the future.”

Tabata could be teasing a version of Final Fantasy 15, out now on PS4 and Xbox One, for the Switch.

Or, he could be hinting that the newly announced Pocket Edition of FF15 could be heading to Nintendo’s hybrid console.

Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition is a mobile adaptation of the console RPG.

It features quite, chibi-style cartoony graphics and has an isometric action RPG viewpoint.

It will be released in ten episodes for iOS and Android devices later this year.
