New Hyundai Tucson 2018 – New SUV specs and facelift revealed in New York

Hyundai celebrated the world debut of the new 2018 Tucson at the New York International Auto Show this week.

At the motor show, the latest iteration of the popular SUV was unveiled.

Its design has been refreshed, new technology and convenience features have been added and, its powertrain line-up has been refined.

“The New Tucson brings a fresh look, creating a consistent appearance with our latest Hyundai models, as well as a series of enhancements to the driving and ownership experience” says Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Vice President Marketing and Product at Hyundai Motor Europe.

“With this major update, we expect the New Tucson to remain highly attractive to our customers, who consistently make it our best-selling model.”

Central to car’s exterior design is Hyundai’s signature Cascading Grille, which is flanked by a new LED headlight signature.

Among the other updates to the car’s design are an uplifted front bumper, skid plate and a new wheel design.

At the rear, the car has been equipped with new rear taillights, rear bumper and muffler.

Powertrain options for the new Tucson have also been revised, with just two petrol and two diesel engines to choose from.

Each unit has been modified to reduce its overall size and improve CO2 emissions.

At the top pf the range is the 2.0 diesel engine with an output of 137 kW/ 186 PS which is paired with a six-speed manual transmissions and four wheel drive – it can also be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

There is also a choice of the 1.6-litre diesle engine which has two power output – 115PS and 133PS.

Both engines are available with a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel-drive.

For the higher power version Hyundai offers a seven-speed dual clutch transmission (7DCT) and the choice of front- or four-wheel drive.

The two petrol engines offered are both 1.6-litre GDI engine but one is turbocharged.

Power outputs for the petrol engines are 132PS and 177PS.

The former 1.6-litre GDI is mated to a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive, while the 1.6-litre T-GDI can be mated to either a six-speed manual or seven speed dual-clutch transmission and either front or four-wheel drive.

Inside the car is can be specified with a premium sound system by Krell, a wireless QI standard based mobile phone charger and a seven-inch information screen, supporting Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth connectivity.

It has also been equipped with the latest active safety and driving assistance features including: Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW) and Speed Limit Indicator Function (SLIF).

The Tucson is set to make its European debut in a few weeks time, before going on sale in summer.
