Carlos Muñoz Portal’s body was found in his bullet-riddled car in the town of Temascalapa, near the borders of the Hildago state, a notoriosuly dangerous region of the Central American country.
According to Variety, the 37-year-old’s body and vehicle were riddled with bullet holes.
Authorities are reportedly struggling to investigate the case due to a lack of witnesses.
A friend of Muñoz told Spanish newspaper El Pais that he was taking photographs for locations.
They also claimed Muñoz body was discovered on Monday September 11, but details of his death are only beginning to emerge now.
During his 10-year career, Muñoz worked on a number of high-profile movies including the latest James Bond film Spectre, as well as Fast & Furious and Tony Scott’s Man On Fire.
Netflix issued a brief statement, which read: “We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family.
“The facts surrounding his death are still unknown as authorities continue to investigate.”
