Only Fools and Horses legend David Jason appeared via video link from his home in Aylesbury this morning to speak with Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt on BBC Breakfast. The trio had plenty to talk about, from David’s new book to his career at the BBC. However, when the conversation turned to the fact the actor had his helicopter pilot’s license, Naga shocked everyone with a rude joke.
The moment came as the interview neared its close and Naga probed the actor on being nervous when he takes to the skies.
“Because you’re 80 now, which you make very clear in the book,” Naga began.
“And you’ve had a very subdued birthday and I won’t ask you where you went because you refuse to say where you went for your birthday with your wife and daughter because you don’t want to reveal the restaurant because you’re being selfish about it, basically,
“But, when you had your test for the helicopter licence, the record is held by an 87-year-old at the moment, do you get the nervous feeling?”

Naga managed to regain composure as she eventually got her question out.
“You obviously want to keep flying, do you ever get that nervous feeling?”
“Well, yes, of course,” David told the presenter. “You’re absolutely right.”
The actor then went on to detail all the complexities that arise when taking on the pilot’s test.
BBC Breakfast viewers were delighted to see the 80-year-old back on their screens, with one saying on Twitter: “@BBCBreakfast brilliant interview with Sir David Jason, I had to rewind it back on iPlayer to see it all.”
A second agreed: “What a wonderful interview on @BBC Breakfast with Sir David Jason this morning. Worth watching if you’re a fan.”
“Who doesn’t love David Jason, TV legend,” weighed in a third.
BBC Breakfast continues daily at 6am on BBC One.
