Naga Munchetty cuts off Brexit Secretary Stephan Barclay in heated Irish backstop debate

After Munchetty’s interjection, Mr Barclay added: “Well, there is existing technology and the paper sets that out.”

“Where?” the BBC Breakfast asked again, exasperatedly.

The Brexit Secretary explained: “Even if you look at the large traders, they already for example know here their vehicles are. They have systems in place for that.

Following details on small traders, the politician added: “There’s already done because there’s a border there in terms of currency and tax in any event.

“So, the regulatory sides done in terms of the regulatory zone as set out in the paper and in terms of customs, it’s building on existing technology and that existing technology would not need to apply until the end of the implementation period as a pose to applying immediately.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
