The 46-year-old former Doctor Who star appeared at a loss for what to say when the comedian quizzed him about his Time Lord successors on the festive special.
Playing a game of quick-fire questions with the actor, Miranda presented him with an impossible decision as she asked: “Snog, marry, kill: Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, Jodie Whittaker?”
The studio audience let out an audible gasp as David’s face fell.
“Don’t do that to me, Miranda,” he begged quietly, before she replied: “I just have, David.”
“I would marry all three of them,” he said tactfully as the audience erupted into laughter.
Doctor Who fans went into meltdown earlier this week when the long-awaited Christmas special finally aired.
The tense instalment, Twice Upon A Time, saw Peter’s Doctor regenerate into the 13th Doctor (played by Jodie).
The first female Time Lord in the history of the popular BBC sci-fi series made a dramatic entrance following her predecessor’s emotional goodbye, with the TARDIS appearing to malfunction within seconds of her regeneration.
Whovians will have to wait until the beginning of the new series to find out how she manages to fix the disaster after she was seen tumbling out of the TARDIS door and free-falling through space at the end of the episode.
Doctor Who is expected to return to BBC One in 2018.
