Melissa McCarthy’s 7 FUNNIEST moments: Sean Spicer to foul-mouthed parent

But for several years now, the 46-year-old has been one of Hollywood’s most dependable comic stars – so we round up some of her most memorable roles below.

Sean Spicer – Saturday Night Live

Melissa returned to Saturday Night Live last weekend in a surprise appearance as the new White House Press Secretary, and instantly went viral. Not only was she hilarious, she also more than looked the part.

Megan Price – Bridesmaids

This was truly the Mike and Molly star’s big breakout performance, even earning her an Oscar nomination. There are too many standout moments to list in full, but highlights include the airplane scene, the “pity party” conversation, and of course the unfortunate diarrhoea incident.

Shannon Mullins – The Heat

There was no way that a combination of Melissa and Sandra Bullock would end in anything other than hilarity, and the actress was hilarious as a no-nonsense unconventional cop brilliantly mis-matched with Sandra’s somewhat more professional loner. The drunk dancing sequence is a particular highlight.

Susan Cooper – Spy

Paul Feig gave Melissa her own vehicle with this pitch-perfect spy caper; the ideal blend between a parody and a love-letter of/to the genre. Complemented by the likes of Jason Statham, Rose Byrne and even Miranda Hart, she was firing on all cylinders.

Catherine – This Is 40

Her appearance in This Is 40 is certainly fleeting, but boy is it memorable. Not only is she a brilliantly foul-mouthed parent who clashes with Lesley Mann and Paul Rudd’s main protagonists, she also gets a side-splitting outtake played in its entirety over the end credits. Watch her co-stars try – and fail – at keeping a straight face.

Diana/Dawn Budgie – Identity Thief

This may not have had the warmest of reactions from critics, but Melissa was in great form in this unlikely buddy movie with Jason Bateman, which was originally conceived for two male leads.

Pocahontas – Lip Sync Battle

Somewhere between the point where RuPaul’s Drag Race popularised lip-sync showdowns and the actual show Lip Sync Battle milked them to death, Melissa appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s show to embody Pocahontas, and it was… quite something.
