Meghan Markle’s royal wedding to Prince Harry is around the corner, and wedding dress speculation is rife.
Now bookies are being forced to slash the odds on one UK designer after fellow British fashion expert Henry Holland chose the Scot as his pick for the 36-year-old actress’s royal wedding.
Christopher Bailey, who is the exiting creative director at UK brand Burberry, is now looking a likely candidate to design Meghan’s dress.
Holland, 34, made the prediction that Bailey, 46, could be the one to design the future-royal’s gown on podcast Wedding Guest Extraordinaire.
He said: “I would be quite excited if it was Christopher Bailey’s final bow for Burberry. I think that would be a nice thing for him to do, she’s worn them for a long time.”
“Christopher’s a lovely, lovely guy and I think a Burberry wedding dress would be pretty spot on.”
Giles Deacon was confirmed not to be the designer making the gown by Holland.
Now Christopher Bailey’s odds of designing Meghan Markle’s wedding dress have been slashed by Ladbrokes.
Ralph & Russo remain the odds-on favourite to be given the honour, however a gamble is developing on outgoing Burberry chief, Christopher Bailey, designing the world’s most famous wedding dress, and he now finds himself as a 3/1 chance (from 12/1).
Erdem has a 7/4 shot, while Roland Mouret has been a popular pick with some punters at 9/2.
It was thought that Meghan Markle’s wedding dress would cost £150,000 more than Kate Middleton’s dress, and that it would be from Ralph & Russo.
A source said: “The wedding dress has been the biggest expense, and the budget has now doubled from what it originally was.”
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “It’s looking more and more likely that Meghan’s wedding dress will be British.
“Ralph & Russo have been the favourites to design it for a while now, but money talks, and we’ve been forced to slash Bailey’s odds of being given the nod.”
Emma Watson is just one of the high profile Hollywood women who is a fan of Burberry.
She recently wore a very bridal white silk gown at the screening of the film The Circle in New York in April last year.
Emma Watson and Meghan Markle appeared together in a Vanity Fair shoot in March 2017.
The 28-year-old joined actress in a feature to celebrate the “leaders of tomorrow”.
Emma has been the face of Burberry in numerous fashion campaigns.
