Meghan Markle, 36, the fiancee of Prince Harry, 33, lives very close to Kate Middleton, 36, at Kensington Palace in London.
Kate, who is married to Harry’s brother, Prince William, 35, and Meghan are often together, at both public appearances such as the Royal Foundation Forum and private family affairs.
But are they friends? A source close to the two women claims although there is no “animosity” between the two, they still keep some level of distance.
This is because “independent” Meghan, who is originally from Los Angeles and spent seven years living in Toronto while filming Suits, is keen to make her own “network” of friends.
“I do hear plenty to suggest that they’re quite different people and that have quite different interests,” royal expert Katie Nicholls, who wrote Harry: Life, Loss and Love, told InStyle.
“Meghan is quite independent and very confident and very keen to I think establish her own network of friends over here in London,” she continued.
However this is not to say she wants to offend Kate, but rather that she is keen to have a friendship circle of her own, added Katie.
“So that’s certainly not to say she’s snubbed Kate in any way. I think they do spend time together. But I think Meghan’s keen not to rely too much on Kate and to have her own friends as well.”
However, Katie does maintain that the pair are “friendly”, and increasingly spending more time together as time goes on.
“I think they are certainly friendly and they are spending more time with each other,” she said.
“You know they’re neighbours in Kensington Palace and I know that Meghan enjoys going over to see Kate and the children, and she does enjoy that.
I’m told there’s always an open invitation for her to be with Kate ever when she wants.”
She also hit back against rumours that the two women have any form of rift between them.
“I think that any animosity is probably a fabrication in the press. I’ve never heard to suggest that they don’t get along.”
Yesterday, it was reported that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding was threatened by a film released in the US.
