Meghan Markle, 36, broke various royal rules when she arrived at Cardiff Castle in Wales yesterday.
The Suits actress appeared in the city with her royal beau Prince Harry, 33, and dived enthusiastically into greeting members of the public.
While the royals are known for following protocol, sometimes keeping their distance from the public, Meghan took a very different approach.
The actress was seen signing autographs – something the royals never do – as well getting rather more touchy feeling with the public than most of those connected to the royal family do.
The Queen is often happy to shake hands with members of the public, while Kate reportedly carries a clutch bag with both hands to avoid the gesture.
Meghan appeared happy to hold hands with people in the crowds gathered at the castle, as well as allowing one man to kiss her hand.
The actress was captured signing an autograph for a girl in the crowd.
The royals are said to not be allowed to sign autographs, supposedly as part of an anti-fraud policy.
Glamour reported that when Prince Charles is asked for his signature her says: “Sorry, they don’t allow me to do that.”
Royal correspondent Camilla Tominey told Ruth Langsford and Alison Hammond on This Morning today: “Meghan broke all the rules with selfies, high fives and hugs.”
Meghan’s behaviour is very similar to that of Prince Harry’s late mother Princess Diana, who was often praised for way with members of the public, the expert claimed.
She added: “You wouldn’t he seen it back in the 40s and 50s but Princess Diana started these sorts of trends.
“Sometimes I think the public think the royals are stuffier than they are.”
Prince Harry is said to have claimed that taking selfies make him uncomfortable, but Meghan didn’t seem to mind.
Her background as an actress may well have made her more inclined to sign autographs.
Camilla Tominey added: “They aren’t meant to sign autographs but because Meghan is an actress I think she is used to it.
“I’m not sure she signed a signature, I think she just wrote a note to the little girl.”
