McCarthy's SNL Ties Highest Rating for Any Broadcast Show in 7 Weeks

This calls for double pie.

Melissa McCarthy‘s much anticipated fifth time hosting NBC’s Saturday Night Live delivered 10.34 million total viewers, representing the long-running sketch series’ biggest overall audience for a May episode since May 8, 2010 (when host Betty White and musical guest Jay Z drew 12.05 million).

In the coveted 18-49 demo, SNL — which again aired live coast to coast — scored a 2.74 rating, marking a six-year high for a May episode (since JT/Lady Gaga on May 21, 2011) and, more impressively, matching the highest rating for any broadcast entertainment program in seven weeks, since Fox’s Empire did a 2.82 on March 22.

All told, it was the second most-watched SNL of the season in total viewers (behind Alec Baldwin/Ed Sheeran on Feb. 11 , 10.84 million viewers) and the No. 3-rated (behind Baldwin/Sheeran and the first post-election episode, with Dave Chappelle and A Tribe Called Quest).

TVLine readers gave this weekend’s SNLan average grade of “B.”
