The This Morning presenters were talking to the money-saving expert about ways to save money as a couple, including the possibility of sharing debt.
However, things quickly became very awkward when Eamonn made a remark about Ruth‘s spending habits and insisted he wouldn’t help his wife out if she was in debt.
He asked: “What if you don’t want your partners debt moved to your account?
And, Ruth wasn’t impressed by his comment as she hit back: “That’s very chauvinist, I always pay my debt. Take that back right now.”
Eamonn continued to wind her up and the pair began to bicker leaving Martin rather flustered.
Keen to get his segment back on track, he scolded them: “Behave! That’s enough, stop that right now.”
That wasn’t the only awkward moment on the ITV show, with Eamonn later remarking he would date a guest taking part in segment which saw her children search for her Valentine’s date.
After watching Abigail’s children interview three men who could be her date for the romantic holiday, he remarked: “She’s a good-looking woman, I’d date her.”
Ruth was shocked by the comment as she exclaimed: “That was so rude!”
But, Eamonn continued to dig a hole for himself as he later claimed his wife did not have the correct body shape to wear culottes.
Commenting on Ruth’s look of the day, he said: “Well, they’re different… you need to have a certain body to pull them off.”
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10.30am.
