Martin Lewis is a British financial journalist also known as Money Saving Expert or MSE.
He regularly appears on television, giving financial advice and helping Britons save hundreds of pounds.
Last night he appeared on his own money-saving television segment, The Martin Lewis Money Show.
On the show he revealed how Britons can save up to £400 a year on water bills, just by doing one thing.
On the show, Martin was asked financial advice from a woman who is paying £74 direct debit a month on water bills.
She was worried that she was paying too much, and Martin agreed.
Revealing to him that she lived in a four-bedroom house with just two people, the Money Saving Expert explained that water bill estimates are based in size of house, not usage.
He suggested switching to a water meter, a device that can potentially ave hundreds of pounds.
Martin advised: “Get a water meter for free – if you have the same or more bedrooms in your house than people you should check out getting a water metre.
“Your bill is based on the rentable value of your house, but your usage is low.”
He then claimed that a water metre could end up saving the woman £300-£400 a year.
According to the Money Saving Expert, the Consumer Council for Water’s website “will show you how much you can save.”
“Go to your water provider and ask for a more accurate comparison,” he advised.
“If it isn’t working out for you, you have until a year or your second bill if it isn’t working out for you.”
Earlier this week Martin appeared on Lorraine to reveal some money-saving tips for Christmas.
Promoting his own programme prior to the show, Martin gave viewers a sneak peek of the deals to come.
This included a rundown of the best bank accounts to switch to before Christmas.
Martin said Britons need to be “freeing up cash so you’ve got more.”
He said there are “lots of methods you can use to get cash in your pockets. Let me give you three tips from the show.”
Martin often advises on which bank accounts to switch to and his appearance on Lorraine was no exception.
