Martin Lewis, 45, appeared on the ITV morning show to dish up his weekly deals – and he revealed the new cheap energy deal.
The energy switching season is nearly over, but there’s a deal that’s come out that’s very strong for anyone who’s not that keen on switching, said the Money Saving Expert.
He said: “As always the best way to do this is via a comparison site so you can see your exact price and how it compares to others. Use my cheap energy club or any Ofgem approved comparison site to do it.
“Yet this tariff, the OVO 2 year fix, solves three of the problems that normally put people off.”
Martin listed these as:
1) It’s cheap but not from a tiddler firm, one of the biggest firms outside the big 6
2) It has a very strong customer service rating – 80 per cent great.
3) The rate is fixed for two years, so you won’t need to switch again.
He added: “On average for someone on typical usage, with a big six standard tariff you’d pay £1,136 a year – this deal is £950 a year, a substantial saving – around £400 over the two years.
“You must pay by monthly direct debit and have online billing, otherwise it’s £60/yr more. There are cheaper deals for 1 year from smaller firms though – this should all show up in your comparison. It’s a dual fuel or electricity only tariff.”
Martin also revealed how to get a firefighter to wash your car and how to get a 2 per cent cashback on Amazon purchases.
Get a firefighter to wash your car
Martin said: “During March and April, firefighters in around 600 stations around the country (excluding Northern Ireland) are participating in a special charity led event where they’ll wash your car – some using sponges, but if you’re lucky some may get their big hoses out – in return for a donation to The Fire Fighters Charity – it provides injured and ill UK firefighters with help, such as psychological therapy and physio to help them recover and return to work as quickly as possible.
“Check if your local station is doing it first – it’s mainly on Saturday, and if so just turn up. Be prepared to queue and obviously an emergency takes priority. Some fire stations may recommend a minimum donation of £5, which seems fair.”
Rare 2 per cent cashback on Amazon purchases (if you’ve got a child)
Martin said: “There are lots of cashback sites out there and they can be lucrative if you buy through them when shopping (they share their referral fees with you, making it cheaper).
“Yet the one store people want and can’t get is Amazon. However there is now a way through the cashback site KidStart which pays a rare 2 per cent cashback on Amazon shopping. The money is then put into a savings account for a child (it could be yours, your grandchild’s or even a friend). Yet it must be genuinely for the child.”
Martin Lewis recently revealed the best cash ISA with a 1.3 per cent rate.
