Martin Lewis explains how EDF and Npower customers could be OVERPAYING by £350 a YEAR

Sitting on the Good Morning Britain sofa, Martin explained why now is the time to compare utility bills and make the switch.

He said: “All of the big six have now announced their pricing intentions – on Monday, SSE became the last of the big six energy firms to reveal price moves, all of which will hit by the end of April.

“So now there is a level playing field when you compare – and five of the big six are putting prices up

“Plus, you’ll be shocked at the size of the savings, as comparisons now show you how much you’ll save compared with the new increases in rates.

“For someone on typical use after the prices go up, the new standard prices range from £1,082 a year with EDF, to £1,190 with Npower (both dual fuel).

“Compare that to the market’s cheapest deal at £840 and that means you’re being ripped off by £350 a year.

“And even though British Gas is freezing prices until August (and I think they’ll rise then), at £1,044 you can still save about £200 a year.”

Next Martin flagged up a cheap broadband deal – one of the cheapest he’d ever seen.

He said: “The BT fibre broadband and line is £408 but comes with £250 cashback, so it works out at £157 for a year – equivalent to just £13 a month.

“The real savings come from the cashback. You get £200 loaded on a prepaid Mastercard (spendable almost anywhere) and £50 cashback.

“Sadly though, you must claim both after activation (and BT won’t remind you, so be certain to remember) – use this prepaid card claim form, and another £50 cheque form.

“It’s a one-year contract BT deal only available at www.viaCable.co.uk, with up-to-52MB fibre broadband and you can’t get it if you’re an existing BT broadband customer.”

Martin shared some top Mother’s Day deals, and said: “Don’t panic, Mother’s Day isn’t until a week on Sunday, but generally the top courier-delivered flowers deals go quickly. Debenhams flowers are available from £20 when you use the code GMBMUM on the ‘Treasured Mum’ bouquet, and this includes courier delivery, but on Saturday 25 March (or £3 extra for Sunday).

“Tesco Direct has two different bouquets available for £20 each, including couriered delivery on Sunday. When ordering you can select the delivery date but not the specific time.

“M&S has two different types of Mother’s Day bouquets for £25, including courier delivery on a Sunday. They’re normally £30, but M&S is offering an automatic £5 off. Of course, it’ll be far cheaper to pop in store for a bouquet, but do that nearer the time.”

Finally, Martin quickly mentioned a flash discount at Habitat, and said: “Go online to home furnishings retailer Habitat and until 11.59pm tonight (Thursday) you’ll get 25 per cent off when you enter the code HAB25. The code works on everything apart from fitted kitchens, installation, furniture assembly and home delivery cost. You can also get the discount in store all day today, until closing.”
