The host and former Strictly Come Dancing winner will travel venues across the country in a production of the classic musical Crazy For You.
It was first rumoured when the star left The X Factor that she was gunning for a musical role, and now she’s got it: she’ll be playing Irene until the end of 2017.
The jaunt pairs her up with a fellow Strictly champion, Tom Chambers, and takes her to the likes of Plymouth, Leeds, Cardiff, Southend, Norwich and Liverpool amongst others.
In a behind-the-scenes video, she said: “This [character] is the kind of person I’d like to be in real life.
“I’m not a very feisty person so I get to live out all my feistiness through Irene.
“I’ve wanted to do this for years.”
She added: “To be given the chance to be in Crazy For You is so thrilling and brilliant; I cannot wait to go on tour.”
First staged in 1992, Crazy For You was written by Ken Ludwig with music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin respectively.
It houses the iconic showtunes Embraceable You and I Got Rhythm, and is largely based on the writers’ 1930 musical, Girl Crazy.
In London in 1993,it won three Olivier awards, after netting three Tonys in the US.
