Love Island 2019: Maura Higgins’ reaction to shock result leaves viewers in meltdown

Maura, 28, and her partner Curtis Pritchard were the first Love Island couple announced to miss out on the winning title, coming fourth in the running.

Fan favourite Ovie Soko, 28, and his partner India Reynolds, 28, found themselves in third place leaving Tommy Fury, 20, and Molly-Mae, 20, battling it out against Amber Gill, 21, and Greg O’Shea for the crown.

After discussing their time on the ITV reality show, Caroline Flack, 39, revealed Amber and Greg had won over the British public with their whirlwind romance, crowning the pair as champions.

Before the final, Tommy and Molly-Mae were the bookies’ favourites and it seemed Maura was just as shocked by the result.

Taking to Twitter, fans couldn’t help but comment on Maura’s reaction as she and her fellow finalists celebrated Amber and Greg’s win.

Whereas the likes of Curtis had huge smiles on their faces, Maura looked just as stunned as the winners themselves.

One viewer posted on the micro-blogging site: “Why is Maura the only one that’s not happy for Amber & Gregg?! #loveislandfinale #LoveIsland.”

A second added: “What the f*** was up with Maura’s face though #loveisland,” whilst a third remarked: “Maura looks raging @LoveIsland #loveisland.”

However, others simply thought the Irish bombshell was shocked the couple who had been together since the very start, Tommy and Molly-Mae, hadn’t won the crown.

“Maybe unpopular opinion but I truly think Maura is just shocked here. No one from the villa really expected that so I think this is just the ‘wait what? did I hear well?’ moment #loveisland,” a fourth opined.

“I genuinely do this Maura was just shocked cuz no one at the villa expected that so it took her a while to process. #loveisland,” a fifth wrote.

After the money twist saw Greg decide to share the £50,000 prize, all the islanders including Maura took to the stage to congratulate the happy couple on their achievement.

Following the crowning moment, the Love Island official Twitter account posted this morning: “#LoveIsland 2019? Completed it mate.

“We cannot believe another summer of love is over. Huge congrats to Amber and Greg, who are waking up as your winners!

Following eight weeks in the villa, the islanders will be making their way back to the UK in the coming days and former contestant Amy Hart, 27, has said she’s looking forward to seeing Curtis and Maura.

The pair got together after Amy made the decision to leave the villa following the shock split between her and Curtis earlier in the series.

Since arriving back in the UK, Amy has become a guest panellist on ITV’s Loose Women and following stint on the show yesterday, the flight attendant took to social media to comment on her former beau’s exit from the villa.

In view of her 1.1 million Instagram followers, Amy said on her Instagram Stories: “Curtis and Maura – they’re my mates. I left all my grudges in the villa.

“I’m so proud of them. Top eight out of 30 odd Islanders is amazing. I cant wait to see them on Sunday,” she continued.

All the islanders, including Amy, Curtis and Maura, will reunite for the Love Island reunion this Sunday as the contestants discuss the highs and lows during their time in the villa.

Love Island continues Sunday at 9pm on ITV2.
