The Loose Women host, 47, recalled the horrifying story from her holiday years ago, saying that she was wearing goggles and swimming underwater in the hotel pool when she saw the awful incident.
“What I saw made me literally swallow water and get up,” Andrea said. “Then I went back underneath to make sure what I was seeing was what I thought.
“A man was exposing himself to children in the pool,” she told the ITV panel. “And before you say maybe he was just getting a bit of fresh water on it or something, he was clearly aroused and he was in a swimming pool surrounded by children.”
The mother-of-one went on to admit that she was so shocked that she left without doing anything, saying: “At the time I just got out of the pool and went away.
“It was later on during the course of the holiday that I saw him at the buffet table,” she added. “I went over to him and I just waited until he was next to me and we were waiting for mashed potatoes or whatever, and I said in a really quiet voice, ‘I saw what you did, and you are disgusting. And if you ever do that again I will report you’.”
Andrea explained how the man insisted that he didn’t know what she was talking about, before confessing that she now regrets not reporting him to the police immediately, admitting: “Now, when I come away and come home, I’m annoyed at myself. I should have screamed and shouted and reported him and got him hauled off to prison because you do not do that.”
She explained that although she knew what she was seeing was wrong, she had a moment of doubt.
Loose Women viewers were appalled at Andrea’s story, flooding to social media to criticise her for the way she handled the situation, with one tweeting: “I’m actually shocked she just left that man to expose himself aroused in the pool!”
“Yes Andrea, you should have done something at the time,” another commented. “How many times did that creep expose himself before you did the right thing?”
“@andrea_mclean I find it absolutely abhorrent that you saw this and done nothing, leaving him to expose himself to others,” a third added, while a fourth called her reaction “cowardly”.
However, some praised Andrea for her bravery, with one fan saying: “What a vile story. Glad Andrea confronted him though!”
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
